English Civil War type open faced close helm. This does NOT show unless visor is up. The helm displays well as can be seen from the mannekin photo mannekin not included, though I will throw in some feathers! On my enquiring as to its provenance, the previous owner informed me that he had acquired it from the owners of Sherborne Castle in Dorset, which, at the time of the civil wars, was the home of Lord George Digby, a figure (MP) of some prominence in that era. It would be great to be able to say that this helmet was his, but no one can reasonably say so! It was at least likely to have been owned by a member of that family or one of the local militia. More than that is wishful speculation! I have been happy to have been its curator these past 4 or so years and it is only being moved on due to the chronic limitations of a terraced house!
